Wasilla man held on suspicion of catalytic converter thefts
WASILLA, Alaska (AP) - Alaska State Troopers say a 24-year-old Wasilla man suspected of stealing catalytic converters from vehicles has been arrested.
Troopers say Tristen Balthazore stole pollution control devices from at least 21 vehicles in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough causing $42,000 in losses. He was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of suspicion of theft, scheme to defraud, criminal mischief and criminal trespass.
Balthazore remained jailed Thursday. Court documents do not list his attorney.
Troopers started receiving reports of catalytic converter thefts in October and their Palmer Criminal Suppression Unit started a formal investigation in January. Troopers say the investigation continues.
