Police arrested an Anchorage high school student Monday after the young man brought a handgun to school.

According to a release from the Anchorage Police Department, school resource officers were notified Monday afternoon around 3 p.m. that the AVAIL alternative high school student had posted images of himself holding a handgun on social media.

Officers met the student at the Dimond Center bus transit center, where he was arrested. Police said the gun was found on the student during the arrest.

APD stated the investigation did not find that a threat had been made or that the student brandished the weapon at school.

Charges in this case have been forwarded to the state Division of Juvenile Justice.
