Survey: Despite shorter season, holiday shopping sales expected to increase
An annual survey by the National Retail Federation shows the average shopper is spending an average of $1,047.83 on gifts this season, a 4% increase over last year.
In Anchorage on Black Friday, Tom Kennedy and his family found some good deals at the Dimond Center.
"We got some American Eagle sweatshirts, good sale there — $25. Got some joggers for school. I'm a teacher, so gotta stay up on the latest trends so the kids don't make fun of me," Kennedy said.
Wesley Compton was also at the mall and found a good deal on sunglasses. He says being a college student means he likes getting deals whenever he can. "They're $197 and I got them for like $130 — quite the deal if you ask me," Compton said.
There are only 26 days between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year, six fewer than in 2018.
