Anchorage shoppers feast on early Black Friday bargains
The National Retail Federation predicts more than 165 million people will shop between Thanksgiving Day and Cyber Monday, and about 100 people in Anchorage gathered for Best Buy at the Dimond Center to open at 5 p.m. Thursday, ready to find some deals.
Luke Smith was one of them. He was first in line and waited for an hour.
"My legs are cold," said Smith. "But other than that, I'm ready to get in there and get to work."
Some people were there for more than shopping.
"Just wanted to experience Black Friday for the first time in Anchorage," Les Yesnick said. "We're new to the state and new to the city."
TVs and other electronics seemed to be popular with shoppers, and retailers could cash in this year.
The National Retail Federation estimates shoppers will spend 4% more in November and December this year compared to a year ago, for about $730 billion.
