A man who shot one of his relatives in a McCarrey Street apartment on Thanksgiving is charged with second-degree murder.

Moses Crowe, 27, was taken into custody Thursday evening after shooting his sister in the head. According to court documents, she was holding her 1-year-old at the time.

Court documents state multiple members of Crowe’s family were making dinner preparations when he came into the apartment mad about something that happened earlier in the morning.

At one point, according to the documents, Crowe pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at his sister’s head and fired. Police identified her as 23-year-old Amanda R. Owen on Friday.

Someone who witnessed the shooting told police that Owen “fell onto a coffee table that was next to the bed with her young [child] still on her lap,” the documents state.

Crowe was found not far from the scene and voluntarily turned himself in to officers. He was found with a Glock pistol and taken in for questioning.

During an interview, the court documents state Crowe told police he shot Owen, but said it was an accident.

"[Crowe] described taking the pistol out of his pocket and twirling the pistol around on his finger when it went off,” the document states.

When detectives told Crowe others at the apartment gave police a different story, Crowe continued to say it was an accident.

Owen died in the hospital. Crowe is being held on a $500,000 cash bail.
