Police have arrested and charged five people with the murder of Preston Atwood. A sixth person was taken into custody for witness tampering.

Atwood was reported missing after not being seen since Aug. 25, when he was said to have been at Fourth of July beach. According to a missing person bulletin, he was also reported to have been seen the afternoon of Aug. 27 at Two Lakes Park, near the entrance by First Lake. His body was found the following Friday.

According to a Wednesday release from the Seward Police Department, Tyler Goddard, Laurel Correa, Jennifer Harren, and Timothy Ryan are all charged with varying degrees of murder, manslaughter, assault, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit assault and tampering with physical evidence. Melanie Goddard and Ryan have been charged with witness tampering.

Tyler Goddard, Melanie Goddard, Harren and Correa were arrested by Seward police and taken to the Seward Community Jail. Ryan was arrested by Ketchikan police.

A Thursday release from Seward police states James Helberg "returned to the State of Alaska from Idaho and turned himself in to members of the Kenai Police Department." He's charged with murder, manslaughter, assault, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit assault and tampering with physical evidence. 

Tyler Goddard, Harren, Correa, Ryan and Helberg are all being held on a $500,000 bail. Melanie Goddard is being held on a $5,000 bail.

"We would like to extend our deepest appreciation and thanks to Preston Atwood's family and friends, and the Seward community for their assistance, support and patience as we conducted our investigation," the Wednesday release states.
