Mat-Su district stuffs the bus for students in need
The Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District is stuffing the bus to help families in need.
Bus drivers and volunteers set up at the Three Bears on Knik-Goose Bay Road outside Wasilla Saturday.
In addition to cash donations, they also collected anything a family would need for Thanksgiving dinner.
Bus driver Tami Doramus said the donations make sure no one goes hungry over the holidays.
“We have a lot of families in transition, we have a lot of families that are actually homeless that are at our schools,” Doramus said. “We did some for Willow and they have a lot of families who lost everything. We’re trying to make sure that we can get families fed.”
The district hosted five stuff the bus events at stores around the Mat-Su.
Doramus said they collected enough food to feed more than 500 families.
