APD: Man arrested for murder, arson in burning SUV death
Anchorage police have arrested a man suspected to be involved in the death of a person found inside a burning SUV early Friday morning.
According to a community alert from the Anchorage Police Department, police and the Anchorage Fire Department responded to reports of a vehicle fire in a residential area near East 22nd Avenue and More Street, close to Cheney Lake Park, around 1 a.m.
They found a light-colored SUV on fire. After the fire was put out, one body was found inside the vehicle. The person's identity has yet to be released.
Trevor Babcock, 42, was taken into custody for questioning after the incident. An updated alert said he was determined to be the suspect and arrested after the interview.
Babcock is being held at the Anchorage jail on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree arson and tampering with physical evidence.
DMV records show the SUV that caught fire was registered to a Trevor Tyrone Babcock.
