Raising Cane’s celebrated the opening of its second location in Wasilla on Tuesday.

The Wasilla High School drum line kept the crowd and employees entertained in the chilly weather before the store opened.

Raising Cane’s is a Louisiana-based chicken restaurant with more than 450 stores around the country. The Wasilla location is near Smash Burger and Panda Express off the Parks Highway.

Regional marketing manager Ali Urbick said the location created more than 50 jobs.

“We've got high school students who have their first job, we’ve got managers who are making a living for their family, buying homes. Our general manager just closed on his home yesterday,” Urbick said. “So that’s a big thing for us to create that opportunity in the local community.”

Company founder Todd Graves is no stranger to Alaska. He started commercial fishing in Bristol Bay in 1995. Money from his job on the Margaret Mae helped him buy his first restaurant.

Raising Cane’s opened its first location in Alaska at the Tikhatnu Commons in March 2019. Another location is expected to open in South Anchorage.
