The Anchorage Police Department is investigating a shooting that took place during a firearm transaction in a Spenard neighborhood.

Officers responded just before 4:30 Friday afternoon following reports of a shooting near West 36th Avenue and Iowa Street. According to a release from APD, a preliminary investigation shows two adults were meeting to sell a firearm. During the transaction, a man was shot in the upper body.

The man was taken to the hospital for care of injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police say there have been no other injuries reported and no arrests have been made in the case.

A large police presence was in the area while detectives investigated. APD closed 36th Avenue from Iowa Street to Northwood Drive, but later reopened the road around 8:15 p.m.
