A new bridge at Katmai National Park & Preserve will give more visitors better views of the famous brown bears that call the park home. The construction company, which says it specializes in remote projects, announced the completion in a news release Friday.

The elevated walkway across the Brooks River replaces the old floating bridge that frequently got backed up because of “bear jams” that prevented people from crossing.

The new bridge makes it safer for people to cross the river with minimal impact to the bears.

Katmai is known for its bear cam along the Brooks River and its Fat Bear Week competition.
