A Palmer manufacturing company is sending its first piece of military-grade machinery overseas.

The Triverus product is called MCRRS, short for Mobile Cleaning Recovery Recycle System. It’s basically a high-tech water vacuum designed to clean debris from flight decks on Navy aircraft carriers.

Each machine takes about one month to make and costs around $850,000.

The company has made a handful for the U.S. military. Now it’s filling its first order for the Italian navy.

CEO Hans Vogel said Triverus shows large-scale manufacturing is possible in Alaska.

“We spent a lot of time in research and development and got some really smart people, most of them local, even to the Valley. We’ve just become specialized. Of course, that’s where the value is,” Vogel said. “We can do that from Alaska, we can do that from really anywhere. We just chose to live here, we like living here.”

The machine for the Italian navy will take about three weeks to get to Norfolk, Virginia where it will be tested before heading overseas.

Triverus has a multi-million dollar contract to provide more than 40 machines to the military throughout the next four years.
