A hiker was rescued on the Chilkoot Trail after being attacked by a bear.

According to a release from the Klondike Gold Rush National Park Service, the hiker was attacked in the early evening Oct. 29. They were bitten on the leg by what they described as a "brown bear" while hiking along the Chilkoot Trail. The hiker was able to walk to the Canyon City ranger cabin and call for help. 

The distress call came in around 2 a.m. on Oct. 30, according to the release, and was relayed by the Skagway Fire Department and National Park Service staff that worked together to send a helicopter to search the area.

Rescuers found the person near the Canyon City ranger cabin around 9 a.m. on Oct. 30. The solo hiker was able to greeted rescue teams as they approached cabin. 

The hiker was taken by helicopter to Skagway and then to Dahl Memorial Clinic for treatment.
