A Wendler Middle School student has been arrested after police say he threatened to shoot up the school Wednesday morning.

A community alert from the Anchorage Police Department says the student walked up to others at the school, telling them he had a weapon in his bag. Police say the student also "made a comment about shooting up the school."

Middle school staff notified an APD school resource officer about the student after they learned of the situation from another student. The officer responded around 10:23 a.m., according to the alert.

After the officer conducted interviews, the student was arrested. Charges have been forwarded to the Division of Juvenile Justice.

Police say no weapons were found at the school or with the student.
