Driver in propane tank fire arrested after fighting with Fairbanks police
Officers with the Fairbanks Police Department arrested a man after he left the scene of a propane tank fire Saturday afternoon, according to a press release from the City of Fairbanks.
The city says the Fairbanks Fire Department and police were called about a fire at Birch Hill Cemetery around 1:45 p.m.
An initial investigation found a man crashed a vehicle into a 1,000-gallon propane tank. The fire destroyed the tank and the vehicle, the press release stated.
The city says the driver fled the scene and was apprehended by police after he fought with multiple officers. He was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for a medical evaluation.
According to the city, power was shut off and power lines were damaged because of the fire.
Multiple agencies responded to the incident, including three other fire departments. Criminal charges for the suspect are pending.
