Chickaloon singer competes for national songwriting prize
A singer from Chickaloon is in the running for a national song writing competition.
Rhoda Grace was selected as a top five finalist for the Rixon Entertainment Group’s Sing Your Song contest.
She wrote an original piece called “Love Me Back to You."
Grace is a mother of five who says she's a self-taught singer. She finds songwriting is a good way of expressing herself.
“Being able to share a part of my heart and soul with my listeners. I am not a good public speaker, I’m kind of socially awkward. It’s a way for me and it always has been a way for me to get my feelings, thoughts, emotions out there to share with people,” Grace said.
She learned about the competition through a friend’s Facebook page and made a video at the last minute.
“I almost didn’t submit it,” Grace said. “I am shocked. I was not expecting this kind of response.”
By Friday afternoon, her video had nearly 600 shares and 1,400 likes on Facebook. She said the singer whose video gets the most likes gets a trip to Nashville and a chance to record their song with an award-winning producer.
Rhoda is hoping Alaskans’ support will help her take home the top prize.
“The locals here in Palmer and the Mat-Su Valley, it’s amazing the response,” Grace said. “I’m super thankful.”
Voting goes through Oct. 18. You can find a link to Rhoda Grace’s video here.
