A man who once worked with young people has pleaded guilty in federal court to having child pornography.

According to federal court records 55-year-old Dennis Weston Jr. pleaded guilty on Wednesday to one count of sexual exploitation of a child by possession of child pornography.

Weston worked for the Division of Juvenile Justice starting in 1992, according to Tracy Dompeling, the division's director.

Dompeling said Weston was superintendent at Johnson Youth Center in Juneau from 2005 to 2012, then superintendent at McLaughlin Youth Center in Anchorage from 2012 to 2015, before becoming the division's operations manager until 2018.

Weston was put on administrative leave when the department found out about the investigation in June 2018, and he resigned the next month.

Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 11. Until then Weston remains out of custody.
