Two Wasilla schools were placed on lockdown after receiving word about a possible threat Wednesday morning but were back to an all clear status by noon.

In an email, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District said the Wasilla Police Department informed it of a potentially harmful person near Wasilla High School and Wasilla Middle School mid-morning.

WPD wrote in an email that officers were attempting to contact a person in the area who was thought to have a gun and in need of mental health assistance. Wasilla police said there was no real threat posed to either school.

“Both schools went into lockdown for the security of the school community,” the district wrote, adding that schools were taken off lockdown status before noon.

Police say one person has been safely taken into custody, and more information will be available to the public on Monday.
