Long delays are expected Thursday on the Sterling Highway for most of the day.

A release from Alaska State Troopers Wednesday said different departments are working together to prepare for dropping high voltage transmission lines that cross the Sterling Highway near mileposts 62.5 and 58.

The Homer Electric Association is working with the current fire team managing the Swan Lake Fire, the Alaska Department of Transportation and troopers.

The work is being done to mitigate the threat of the electric lines sagging or falling across the highway as a result of fire damage. HEA will work with DOT and AST to assist with traffic while the work is being done.

AST says the work will be between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
