ASD releases statement after high school student dies in East Anchorage bicycle-vehicle collision
The Anchorage School District has released a statement after a high school student was killed during an East Anchorage collision between a bicycle and a vehicle.
Officers with the Anchorage Police Department responded to reports of the collision around 11:30 a.m. Monday. A community alert from the department said the collision was in the intersection of East Tudor and Baxter roads. The bicyclist, who ASD said was a student at Benny Benson Secondary School, was declared dead on scene.
"The entire ASD community is deeply saddened by the sudden death of one our high school students today," the statement from ASD said. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family and friends during this extremely difficult time. ASD will ensure the students and staff at Benny Benson HS have access to support services to assist them in coping with today’s tragedy."
The entire intersection was shut down so police could investigate. Police said the eastbound lanes of East Tudor Road were closed at McLean Place. The westbound lanes of East Tudor Road were closed at Kingston Drive.
Police said the roads reopened around 3 p.m.
