U.S. Army Alaska has identified Sgt. Ken Conrad Chambers as the soldier found dead at Fort Wainwright on Thursday.

Chambers was a signal support system specialist with the 70th Brigade Engineer Battalion, 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, a release from the Army said.

Chambers was 33, originally from Upper Marlboro, Maryland and joined the Army in June 2007. He trained at Fort Benning and Fort Gordon in Georgia. He also served at Fort Bliss and Fort Hood in Texas and Fort Riley in Kansas. He came to Alaska in October 2016 after serving in South Korea.

Chambers served multiple combat tours from 2010 through 2013 in Iraq and Afghanistan. He earned several awards for his service, including the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal. He also earned the Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, three Overseas Service Ribbons and the NATO Medal.

The Army says Chambers' death is under a criminal investigation.
