3.5 million gallons of diesel fuel delivered to Deadhorse by barge
What's believed to be the largest diesel fuel delivery to Prudhoe Bay by barge arrived in Deadhorse last week.
3.5 million gallons of diesel fuel, shipped by Alaska-based logistics and fuel transport company Colville, arrived in the community on Sept. 13.
According to a Monday release from the company, the delivery comes ahead of what is projected to be a busy season for the North Slope. Crews are now working on getting the fuel into storage tanks at the company's storage facility.
The barge deliveries are being made because of an increased demand from more activity in North Slope oil fields. Favorable ice conditions and the company's tank farm are making such deliveries possible, the release says.
Last summer, the company says 2 million gallons of diesel fuel were delivered to the same area. Typically, delivery is made over land through the Dalton Highway. This year's drop, according to the release, is equivalent to roughly 350 truck deliveries.
