APD charges driver in Mountain View stolen vehicle crash
Anchorage police have arrested a man on multiple charges in connection to a stolen vehicle crash in Mountain View last week.
Nicholas Kost, 28, was the driver of a stolen white Chevy pickup that rammed a patrol vehicle and drove into oncoming traffic before crashing on Commercial Drive near the Industrial Way intersection on Sept. 13.
An updated community alert from the Anchorage Police Department says Kost was remanded at the Anchorage jail. He is charged with first-degree vehicle theft, two counts of third-degree assault, four counts of third-degree criminal mischief, four counts of felony violating conditions of release, eluding, second-degree theft and driving with a revoked license.
Anchorage police responded to the scene of a crash involving multiple vehicles in Mountain View.
The crash happened after officers with the Anchorage Police Department noticed a white Chevy pickup traveling west on Commercial Drive just after 5 p.m. Friday. The vehicle had been reported stolen.
A community alert from the department says the officers followed the pickup before attempting to stop it. Police say officers boxed in the vehicle with their patrol cars, but the driver drove through the barrier by ramming one of the patrol cars.
The man driving then lost control of the pickup and drove into oncoming eastbound traffic at the Industrial Way intersection. The pickup hit a gray Ford Escape and blue GMC Jimmy.
Police say the pickup rolled on its side after colliding with the two other vehicles. A woman, the only passenger, was partially ejected from the vehicle.
The woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The driver was also taken to the hospital, but has only minor injuries.
Police say no one else was injured in the crash.
All lanes of Commercial Drive were temporarily closed between Industrial Way and Rampart Drive. Police say they are investigating and are cautioning drivers to avoid the area.
