2 charged with manslaughter in Sand Point overdose death
Two men from Sand Point are facing manslaughter charges after a King Cove woman died from an apparent drug overdose over the weekend.
According to a release from the Sand Point Department of Public Safety, 26-year-old Raylene Kochuten died at the Sand Point Clinic Sunday after taking counterfeit oxycodone hydrochloride pills that may have contained fentanyl.
Police believe Kochuten's case is related to another overdose in Sand Point that happened the day before she died. Emergency personnel were able to save a man's life after he was found unresponsive; they say he showed signs of a drug overdose.
After identifying several persons of interest in the two cases, police arrested 38-year-old Jeremy Krone and 44-year-old Michael Gundersen, charging them with manslaughter and misconduct involving a controlled substance.
The drugs involved in the two cases are believed to be small, blue 30 milligram pills, and police says they're extremely dangerous.
Anyone who has these pills are advised not to take them. They can be anonymously turned in to the police department where they'll be disposed of properly.
Anyone with information about these cases is asked to contact the Sand Point Police Department at 907-383-3700.
