Anchorage police say they made an arson arrest Tuesday morning which led them to charge a man in connection to a recent Service High School fire.

Officers responded to the report of a tree on fire at 6:30 a.m. near Abbott Road. According to a community alert, police said the caller stated there was a suspicious person nearby.

Police said the officers made contact with the man, identified as 29-year-old Phillip Barger, and determined he was responsible for starting the fire.

Barger was taken into custody. Upon interviewing him, police found they were able to link him to another arson investigation near Service High School on Aug. 19.
