National Guard, Defense Force members hit by alleged drunk driver on Sterling Highway
Three members of the Alaska Air National Guard and one member of the Alaska State Defense Force were hurt when an alleged drunk driver hit their vehicle on the Sterling Highway early Saturday morning, according to a release from the guard sent Sunday evening.
The military service members were assigned to the Sterling Highway to help with the flow of traffic during the Swan Lake Fire.
One of the people hurt is the son of Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Charlie Pierce, according to the borough's lead public information officer Brenda Ahlberg.
According to the release, the four people hurt are expected to recover. The vehicle, however, was totaled.
