Early morning Anchorage shooting ends in 1 arrest, 1 victim hurt
A man is in jail Thursday after an argument broke out between two men and one of them suddenly began brandishing a gun before shooting the victim.
The suspect, 35-year-old Richard S. R. Goughnour, has been arrested and booked into the Anchorage Correctional Complex. Anchorage police say a call came in around 1:20 a.m. Thursday saying shots were fired when they were dispatched to McPhee Avenue.
A preliminary investigation found Goughnour was driving in a car and fled the scene after shooting the victim, who was on foot, in the upper body. After being wounded, the victim was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. Police said in a dispatch update he is expected to survive.
It is still unclear why the two men were arguing. The Anchorage Police Department says the men don't know each other and police are looking into the cause of argument. Goughnour has been charged with first-degree assault, second-degree misconduct involving a weapon, and reckless endangerment.
Online court records show Goughnour has been previously arrested and charged for a misdemeanor involving criminal mischief and damaging property.
McPhee Avenue is open to traffic after being closed between Pine Street and Lane Street while police were investigating the crime.
