Man dead after Nunaka Valley SWAT situation
Anchorage police asked people to avoid an area of Nunaka Valley Thursday morning while SWAT officers responded to a disturbance.
Atkinson Drive was shut down by Link Court and Kepner Drive, according to a community alert from the Anchorage Police Department.
Patrol officers first went to the home on Atkinson Drive about 2:45 a.m. after reports of a domestic disturbance. Police heard people arguing inside and then shots being fired.
In another alert later Thursday morning, police say officers went inside and found two people in a room. An adult male was dead with a gunshot wound to his upper body. An adult female had a gunshot wound to her lower body and was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.
A community alert from police Friday evening said the man has been identified as 61-year-old Guy Walk. Walk died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound after shooting the woman. Police say she is expected to survive her injuries.
Atkinson Drive has reopened and homicide detectives have taken over the investigation.
