Homer man arrested for killing moose, leaving carcass in backyard to rot
A man has been sentenced after shooting a moose in his backyard, then letting it die and rot.
Alaska State Troopers say in an online dispatch, 28-year-old Cameron D. Larrick of Homer was found guilty of wanton waste of a big game animal.
According to the dispatch, Larrick shot the moose when the moose tried to charge at him and his dog.
Larrick did not report this incident and he didn't salvage any meat from the moose, leaving the carcass out to decay.
He was sentenced in Homer district court on Aug. 20 to serve seven days in jail in addition to paying a $2,500 fine.
His hunting license has also been revoked for five years.
