Alaskans impacted by last year’s earthquake who still have unmet needs may apply for reconsideration for help from the state, but they must apply by the of next month.

The application period for the State of Alaska individual assistance reconsideration ends Sept. 30 at 11:59 p.m.

All damages claimed must be a direct result of the Nov. 30 earthquake. After applying for reconsideration, applicants will have 60 days to submit supporting documentation.

The Department of Homeland Security and Emergency Management says applicants must have completed the following steps to be eligible for reconsideration:

1) Submitted a State of Alaska individual assistance application by the original deadline of Feb. 28, 2019.

2) Applied for FEMA individual assistance by the May 31, 2019 deadline.

3) Finalize the FEMA assistance process — including exhausting appeal options.

4) Attempted to obtain a Small Business Administration (SBA) disaster loan. SBA loans must be insufficient or denied in order to proceed with State of Alaska IA reconsideration.
