A woman is dead following a multi-vehicle collision in Anchorage on West International Airport Road.

The deceased has been identified as 66-year-old Deborah S. Sherfick. Her next of kin have been notified.

The Anchorage Police Department initially notified people just after 4 p.m. of lane closures due to the crash, affecting the following:

•     Eastbound lanes of Northwood Drive at West International Airport Road
•     Eastbound lanes of West International Airport Road at Jewel Lake Road

The closures remained in effect according to an update at 5:10 p.m. and will be in place until the scene is cleared, according to police.

A preliminary investigation found a black Acura — which witnesses said was moving at a high rate of speed — was heading east on International when a blue Chevy going the opposite direction made a left turn onto Northwood Drive.

Police say the Acura then T-boned the Chevy, which was pushed into a nearby pickup truck.

Each of the vehicles had one person inside. The woman driving the Chevy was declared dead at the scene. The man driving the Acura was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the hospital. The driver of the nearby truck was not transported for care.

Police are not releasing the name of the woman killed at this time.

The cause of the crash is still being investigated, police said, including whether or not drugs or alcohol were involved.

Investigators are looking for anyone who may have seen the man driving the Acura — a 2006 black 2-door RSX with license plate KBN737, according to APD — between 3:30 and 3:45 p.m. in the area of Minnesota Drive and International Airport Road.
