The season may be over but summer college baseball is picking back up in Kenai. The Peninsula Oilers announced Monday afternoon they will return to the Alaska Baseball League next season.

The Peninsula Oilers Board of Directors voted unanimously over the weekend to keep playing.

"We really feel like the consequences of sitting out a year are pretty great," said Oilers President Mike Tice."Therefore, we just don't want to take that chance."

The team announced before this year started it may have to suspend operations because of financial problems. Tice says they will face a big challenge as they head into next season.

"We don't know where the money is going to come from at this point," he said. "But we're just going to trot ahead blindly, I guess."

The Oilers, who have been part of the ABL since 1974, missed the playoffs and finished last in the league this season.
