A man tied to at least four sexual assault cases in the local area has been arrested and Anchorage police believe there could be more possible victims.

Alphonso L. Mosley III, 34, was first identified as a suspect in a sexual assault case in 2017. According to an alert from the Anchorage Police Department, police took a sample of his DNA at the time and entered it into the Federal Bureau of Information's DNA indexing system.

The system eventually linked him to two unsolved sexual assault cases in 2009 and 2012. More recently, the system tied him to an unsolved 2019 case.

Mosley was indicted by an Anchorage grand jury last week on three counts of first-degree sexual assault for the rapes in 2012, 2017 and 2019 cases. Police say the 2009 case wasn't pursued because the victim is no longer alive.

Mosley was taken into custody Saturday night on an outstanding felony warrant while walking in the area of Post Road and East Third Avenue. He is now being held at the Anchorage jail on a $100,000 cash bail.

Police say anyone who believes they might have been a victim or has information related to these cases is asked to call Sgt. Dawn Neer at 907-786-2471.
