Fatal traffic investigation: Police name driver killed in crash at Arctic Boulevard and West Dowling Road
The Anchorage Police Department has identified 36-year-old Gilbert Naomoff as the driver killed in the fatal crash at Arctic Boulevard and West Dowling Road Friday evening.
Anchorage police are asking drivers to avoid the intersection of Arctic Boulevard and West Dowling Road while they investigate a fatal crash.
The Anchorage Police Department and the Anchorage Fire Department both arrived on scene around 6 p.m. Friday. According to an APD alert, a silver Dodge Stratus was traveling southbound on Arctic Boulevard near West Dowling Road at "a very high rate of speed."
Police say the car hit a bridge near the railroad tracks, rolled multiple times and caught fire. The driver of the car, a man, was the only one in the vehicle. He died on scene.
APD traffic investigators are also responding to the scene. Police and fire officials are expected to remain in the area for some time.
Both directions of Arctic Boulevard are closed. Police say northbound traffic is being diverted to Arctic Spur Road.
The crash remains under investigation.
