Wasilla's new Sonic Drive-In is set to open Aug. 20 at 6 a.m.

Franchise co-owner Larry Clark was at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly meeting Tuesday night to talk about the restaurant’s traffic plan for the first day.

The chain restaurant will be the first business to open in the new Shoppes at Sun Mountain complex.

Clark said traffic coming into the restaurant will be directed through Herman Road. Customers will exit on Maney Drive.

There will be flaggers at several intersections. Clark said crews might barricade part of Sun Mountain where other construction is still taking place.

“Me and my team have been diligently working in the building to get everything set up and ready to serve cherry limeade to the masses,” Clark said.

In December 2018, Clark announced he was bringing the drive-in franchise to Alaska. His restaurant will also have a dine-in option for customers.

“That’s a new platform for Sonic that’s just come around in the last year or so,” Clark said in an interview in December. “We wanted to make sure we could accommodate everyone during the winter.”

Other businesses moving into the $60 million development include Planet Fitness and Tacos Cancun Mexican Grill.
