APD officer accused of sexual abuse of a minor appears in court
Court documents shed more light on the allegations of sexual abuse against an Anchorage Police Department officer.
Andres Ornelas, 28, faces two counts of sexual abuse of a minor. In the documents, Ornelas’ victim is described as a teen girl whose sister is in a relationship with him. The couple has a 5-year-old child together.
The victim said she was spending the night with her sister and Ornelas on a Thursday in May when the alleged abuse happened.
She said she took one shot of alcohol and that her sister had two. After her sister passed out from drinking, the victim said she ended up in Ornelas’ room but didn’t remember how, the documents read.
In interviews, the victim said she remembered Ornelas kissing her and taking her shirt off. She said he had his hand on her neck so tightly that she had trouble breathing. She asked him to remove it, but he didn’t, so she removed it. The victim says she had intercourse with Ornelas.
The victim said she woke up in the morning naked next to Ornelas, her sister and the couple’s 5-year-old child. The victim said she was worried what her sister would think, so she got up and got dressed.
The victim’s sister said when she woke up the morning after the alleged abuse, the victim was on the floor which is something she wouldn’t normally do.
The 5-year-old told his mother that he heard the victim and his dad making noise.
“Daddy and [the victim] woke me up. They were on the bed,” the documents read. The child reported not being sure of whether Ornelas and the victim were kissing, but said it sounded like it. “I heard a lot of that.”
The child continued, saying “Dadda was rolling [the victim] on the bed next to me. So I moved next to momma,” the documents read.
Both sisters reported that Ornelas tried to commit suicide after the alleged abuse by drinking alcohol, taking pills and doing something to his arm. His girlfriend found and helped him afterwards.
During the interviews, the victim reported an incident that happened with Ornelas two years ago. She said she fell asleep on the couch at her sister and Ornelas’ apartment. When she woke up, she said Ornelas was behind her with his arm around her waist. She moved his arm and went to the floor.
Ornelas will need to pay $15,000 dollars in cash to be released from jail.
Ornelas has been with APD for two-and-a-half years and is currently on unpaid leave pending the results of the case.
