Person critically injured after fall from Girdwood hand tram
A person has life-threatening injuries after falling from Girdwood's Winner Creek Trail hand tram Saturday morning.
The Girdwood Fire Department responded to a report of someone falling from the tram about 10:11 a.m., according to a Facebook post from the department. An update posted at 11:15 a.m. said the Rescue Coordination Center would be taking the male patient to get medical care.
"Thank you to our Girdwood crews for good work on a technical medical rescue," the post read.
The incident comes just eight weeks after 57-year-old Jeffrey Hummel of Anchorage died after falling from the same tram on June 8.
The tram is still closed as of Friday, Aug. 9; the city says it will stay closed until an investigation is finished and it's determined if any safety improvements are needed and what they are. The Whittier Police Department is investigating and interviewing witnesses.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
