According to a 5:11 p.m. update from the Anchorage Police Department, GCI has resolved the issue and wireless service has been restored in all areas.

Original Story

Due to technical issues with cell towers Thursday afternoon, some GCI wireless customers near Anchorage may be temporarily unable to call 911, according to a statement from the Anchorage Police Department.

Parts of Anchorage, Eagle River, Chugiak and Indian are affected.

A spokesperson for the company, Josh Edge, said the wireless outage is affecting a limited number of customers in those areas. Edge said crews are working to restore service as quickly as possible.

APD stated people who are affected by the temporary outage should use a phone with a different provider to call 911 in an emergency.
