On Thursday, groups statewide will begin collecting signatures toward recalling Gov. Mike Dunleavy, who is approaching his ninth month in office.

According to the Facebook page for the group Recall Dunleavy, the signature-gathering begins in Juneau and Yakutat Thursday morning. Efforts continue throughout the day in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Wasilla and several other coastal communities.

Additional signature gatherings will take place on Friday in Ketchikan and Saturday at Salmonfest.

In addition to collecting more than 28,500 signatures, the group must also prove one of the following grounds for recall: lack of fitness; incompetence; neglecting duties or corruption. The group is also scheduled to release its website, recalldunleavy.org, on Wednesday.

When asked several weeks ago about recall prospects underway Dunleavy said given the tough decisions he’s made, he wasn’t surprised.

Correction: A previous version of this story listed the group's website as dunleavylied.com. It was changed after Recall Dunleavy updated the web address it registered with the Alaska Public Offices Commission.
