Fish Creek will be open for sport fishing, but anglers will need to to be 15-years-old or younger — at least in the first weekend of August.
The Department of Fish and Game is holding youth-only fishing from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Fish and Game says kids can fish for everything except king salmon.
There will be markers at the mouth of the creek and a quarter-mile upstream from Knik-Goose Bay Road to show where to fish. The bag limit for each day is three salmon, with two coho salmon allowed per day.
Youth-only fishing days were set up by the state to give young people the opportunity to go out and fish. Kids don't need a sport fishing license to take part.
Fish and Game says adults can help kids catch fish. But, people 16 years or older aren't allowed to fish in the youth-only areas.
Fishing for all ages in all parts of Fish Creek start up again on Aug. 10.
