Dozens of people took off from Service High School on Saturday with their four-legged friends for this year's Dog Jog. KTVA's Daniella Rivera, John Thompson and Cassie Schirm all took part in the annual Dog Jog hosted by Friends of Pets.

The first event took place 25 years ago to help raise money to treat unwanted pets, including dogs.

"People love their dogs here, but, they also love the fact that animals do so much for us, you know with our mental health, our physical health, and we just appreciate everybody coming out to support us, even in the rain," said Friends of Pets Vice President Michele Girault.

Girault and the organization hoped the race would raise $40,000.

Friends of Pets started in 1989 to help Anchorage animal control. Members work with animals in need of medical care before they can be adopted.
