Recent rainfall on the Kenai Peninsula means campfire restrictions in some areas are being lifted.

Beginning immediately, all campfire and fire restrictions are canceled for Kenai National Wildlife Refuge, Kenai Fjords National Park and Chugach National Forest lands on the Peninsula. Officials from the three agencies wrote a statement about the lifted restrictions Wednesday.

“Although fire danger has decreased over much of the Kenai Peninsula, residents and visitors are urged to continue to use caution with campfires,” the statement read.

The Division of Forestry recommends keeping enough tools and water nearby to keep fires under control and never leaving fires unattended.
