AST: Toddler wanders off, later found unresponsive in creek
A toddler reported missing tragically wandered off and has been pronounced dead, per Alaska State Troopers.
A 17-month-old had been reported missing on July 16 at around 8:09 p.m. after a family member reported she wandered off near Sullivan Avenue in Palmer. Neighbors and volunteers started searching the surrounding area before AST arrived on scene. The toddler had been missing for approximately 30-45 minutes before being found unresponsive in Bodenburg Creek.
Life saving measures were performed on scene. Butte Fire and Mat-Su Water Rescue assisted with search and rescue efforts as well. The toddler was taken to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center to continue life-saving efforts. Afterwards, LifeMed took her to Providence Alaska Medical Center's Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for further care. Sadly, she was pronounced dead Wednesday morning.
KTVA reached out to AST PIO, Ken Marsh, he confirmed no foul play was involved and next of kin has been notified.
