Temperatures climbed fast Thursday afternoon, reaching 81 degrees by 2 p.m. with the high temperature likely to reach the mid-80s before the day is done. Even at just 81°, this already breaks the record for the warmest 4th of July on record. The previous record was just 77° set in 1969.

We've seen some warm Independence Day's in the last 5 years with the 70s in both 2018 and 2014, but nothing as warm as we're seeing this year.

This makes the 7th record high temperature broken during this heat wave and the 16th record high temperature this year.

The heat will continue through the weekend. High temperatures will return to the mid-80s again Friday and we'll stay in the low to mid-80s likely through Tuesday.

Stay cool and be fire-wise!
