Cyclist killed, driver arrested after crash on Vine Road
A 41-year-old Wasilla man was arrested for an unrelated active warrant following a Friday night collision near the intersection of Vine Road and Raspberry Loop that killed a bicyclist.
The bicyclist has been identified as 38-year-old Ronald A. Gideon, of Wasilla. Gideon's family has been notified of his death, according to an Alaska trooper online dispatch update on Friday.
Alaska State Troopers arrived around 6:42 p.m. for the crash involving a bicyclist and a red Jeep SUV, according to an online dispatch posted Saturday. Troopers on scene Friday stated the Jeep had been driving north on Vine Road when the driver struck the cyclist.
Troopers said the cyclist had significant injuries. Life-saving measures including CPR were performed, however the cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene just after 7 p.m. Troopers have not yet released the name of the person killed.
Chris A. Anderson, 41, was driving the SUV. During the investigation, troopers learned Anderson had an active warrant for his arrest for failing to comply with conditions of probation. Anderson was arrested for the warrant and taken to the Mat-Su pre-trial facility and held on a $100 bail.
According to troopers, the Palmer District Attorney's Office will determine whether any charges are filed in connection to the crash once the investigation is complete.
