Nordstrom will close its downtown Anchorage store this fall, notifying employees of the decision Wednesday morning.

The store's last day of business will be Friday, Sept. 13, an emailed statement from the company said. It's Anchorage's only full-line location.

"We keep a close eye on the long-term performance of our stores, real estate agreements and the future needs of our business," the statement said. "We look at our business market-by-market to understand where we have opportunities to grow while also being as efficient as possible in serving our customers."

The company said that after looking at their needs in the Anchorage market, closing the store was the decision that made the most sense.

"We’re working with each impacted employee to help them determine their next steps and help them each find other roles within Nordstrom whenever possible," the company said.

Nordstrom will instead focus their attention on serving customers at the nearby Nordstrom Rack store, located in the Midtown Mall.
