Coast Guard rescues 6 from disabled boat in Prince William Sound
Six boaters are safe after being rescued by the U.S. Coast Guard near Port Etches in Prince William Sound Saturday.
A response crew from Valdez was sent to help the disabled and adrift 22-foot Freebird, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.
The crew reported they were in distress at the Hinchinbrook Entrance to Port Etches with no ability to anchor. The boat from Valdez rescued the Freebird's crew and towed the vessel to safe harbor.
A good Samaritan vessel helped at the scene until the Coast Guard arrived, the release states.
“We are grateful for any good Samaritan assistance throughout Alaska, and for the quick notification from the Freebird crew,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Jason Roe, a Sector Anchorage operations unit watchstander “It is the combination of the two that allowed us to be on scene and provide assistance that lead to such a positive outcome for these people.”
