Napakiak man arrested for 2018 theft at city building
A Napakiak man is facing multiple charges for allegedly breaking into the city building last year and stealing several items, including a safe that was bolted down.
Alaska State Troopers say in an online dispatch posted Wednesday that 52-year-old Alfred Evan used a crowbar to get into the building in November 2018. He stole other miscellaneous items in addition to the safe.
Evan was identified through video evidence and DNA, the dispatch states.
A $15,000 arrest warrant was issued for him.
On Wednesday, Evan was at the Bethel courthouse for an unrelated criminal case where he was arrested for the 2018 crimes. He’s being held at the Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center, charged with burglary, theft and criminal mischief.
According to online court records Evan is scheduled to appear in a Bethel courtroom Thursday afternoon.
