12-year-old arrested for weekend homicide near Chester Creek Trail
According to a Wednesday morning statement from the Anchorage Police Department, detectives have arrested a 12-year-old and transferred him to the McLaughlin Youth Center. He’s the suspect in Sunday’s shooting that left 18-year-old Thomas Williams dead near Chester Creek Trail.
Police identified Williams in a second statement Wednesday morning.
Another juvenile was also shot and taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Both that victim and Williams were shot multiple times.
The preliminary investigation showed that, before shots were fired, a group of juveniles got into an argument in the area of the sports field near the Sullivan Arena.
Police say the altercation ended in the woods near the trail, where the 12-year-old suspect allegedly shot both victims.
APD had also questioned a 45-year-old person of interest who has been released.
