A major Palmer intersection will be closed for two weeks due to construction.

The Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities will shut down the Palmer-Wasilla Highway at the Glenn Highway intersection starting at 8 a.m. Wednesday.

DOT spokesperson Shannon McCarthy said crews will be removing an old storm drain system and old electrical work for the traffic signal. While the closure is in effect, crews will also compete curb, gutter, sidewalk and paving work.

The construction is part of the larger project to expand the Glenn Highway to four lanes into Palmer.

There’s a detour set up around Bogard Road to Hemmer Road.

McCarthy said people will be able to access McDonald’s and Carrs from the Glenn. Crews removed the median so vehicles exiting can turn left or right.

The closure goes from 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, to 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 19.
